Article Types and Considerations
Full Article – Reports primary research results within any disciplinary area of basic science, clinical science, medical humanities and educational research.
Micro Article – Reports the results of a singular, rigorous experiment or a series of focused experiments that can be communicated using only one table or figure item. The micro article is intended to encourage publication of preliminary studies that primarily fall into one of four categories including (i) a new finding, (ii) a negative finding, (iii) a replication study, or (iv) development of a method, reagent, or tool.
Review Article – An assessment of the current body of literature on a significant topic. Review articles should summarize current knowledge, identify gaps in knowledge, and discuss future directions for the field. Reviews articles may be either narrative or systematic (i.e. a meta-analysis). A systematic review must include detailed description of methodology including inclusion/exclusion criteria and statistical analyses.
Case Report/Series – Reports the outcomes of an extraordinary and impactful retrospective or prospective case report or case series. The report should make clear the significance of the case, include a relevant review of literature, and highlight implications for clinical practice. Only a limited number of case reports and case series will be accepted for publication in each issue.
Formatting of Submissions
Each submission shall include the following sections in order if applicable: (i) Title page with authors and affiliations, (ii) Abstract, (iii) Introduction, (iv) Methods, (v) Results, (vi) Discussion, (vii) References, (viii) Tables, (ix) Figure Legends, (x) Figures.
